A Life Lived at Racing Speed

More than five decades of grit, throttle and heart. From the first Indian racer to represent South Africa, to the Nürburgring 24 Hours, to a Ferrari SF90 Stradale roaring up a Cape Town hillclimb in his seventies — this is the story of Farouk Dangor, and the passion that built Speedy Car Sales.

The Man Behind the Wheel

A Racer Who Happens to Sell Cars

Some people sell cars for a living. Farouk Dangor has spent his life racing them — and selling them was simply how he funded the dream. In 1974, with just R300 to his name, he opened a modest car business in Klerksdorp. The capital was tiny. The ambition was enormous.

What set Farouk apart was never just commercial instinct. It was a genuine, lifelong obsession with how a machine moves — how it brakes into a corner, how the throttle answers, how a perfectly set-up car feels alive beneath you. That feel for performance, honed at hundreds of kilometres an hour, is exactly what he brings to every vehicle that passes through the Speedy Car Sales showroom.

Decades later, the awards line the walls — multiple ABSA Golden Dealer titles, Top Executive Dealer recognition — yet you are still as likely to find him in a race suit at a circuit as in a suit at the dealership. The two were never separate. They are the same story.

Five Decades at Full Throttle

The Racing Story, Year by Year

A career measured not in seasons, but in lifetimes of passion — from a R300 start-up to a supercar on the hillclimb.

1974

It Begins With R300

Farouk Dangor founds Speedy Car Sales in Klerksdorp with just R300 in capital and a fierce belief that he can do it better. The name says everything: speed, ambition, and the promise to always be one step ahead.

1980

Making History on the Grid

Farouk becomes the first Indian racer to represent South Africa — a landmark moment in a sport that, at the time, rarely made room for someone like him. Cutting his teeth in fierce Hotrod racing, he earns respect the only way that counts: lap times.

Late 1980s

Mastering the Circuit

The Hotrod years give way to touring car and circuit competition. Wheel-to-wheel, weekend after weekend, Farouk builds the racecraft — the patience, the bravery, the mechanical sympathy — that would define everything to come.

1992

The Green Hell — Nürburgring 24 Hours

The ultimate test. Farouk lines up for the legendary Nürburgring 24 Hours in a BMW M3, racing through day and night around the most feared circuit on Earth. To take on the Nordschleife for a full day and night is to join a very rare club of drivers. He earns his place in it.

2000s

Building the Dream — Still Racing

As Speedy Car Sales grows into one of the country's most respected luxury and exotic dealerships, Farouk refuses to hang up his helmet. The discipline of the track becomes the standard of the showroom: every car quality-inspected, every client treated with the precision he demands of himself on the grid.

2020s

No Such Thing as Retirement

Into his seventies and still strapping in. While most of his peers swap the cockpit for the grandstand, Farouk keeps competing — proof that a true racer never truly steps out of the car. The fire that lit in 1980 has never once dimmed.

2025 / 2026

A Ferrari SF90 on the Hillclimb

The latest chapter is also one of the most spectacular: Farouk tackles the Speed Classic Cape Town hillclimb in a Ferrari SF90 Stradale, a 735 kW hybrid hypercar. Half a century after that R300 beginning, he is still chasing the perfect run — faster, sharper, and more passionate than ever.

The Dangor family Motor Museum

In Loving Memory

Mohamed's Museum — Where the Story Lives On

Every great racing legacy needs a keeper of its memory. For the Dangor family, that role was lovingly filled by Farouk's late son, Mohamed, who created the family's Motor Museum — a place to gather, preserve and honour a lifetime of racing.

Walk through it and the decades come alive: the race cars themselves, the worn race suits and helmets, the trophies that mark hard-won victories, and the photographs, programmes and memorabilia that tell the story behind each one. It is part archive, part shrine, part family living room.

Mohamed's passing left a profound absence, but his museum endures as a heartfelt tribute — a reminder that this passion was never one man's alone, but a family's. To stand among those cars is to understand exactly why Speedy Car Sales cares so deeply about every machine in its care.

Why It Matters to You

"This passion for performance and excellence drives everything we do at Speedy Car Sales."

It is why every car is quality-inspected as if Farouk himself were about to race it. It is why no client is ever rushed, and no detail overlooked. The same standards that win on the track are the ones we bring to your driveway.
